About Rumney Folk Club
Rumney Folk Club meet once a month in St. Augustine's church hall on Whitehall Parade, Rumney, Cardiff, where everyone is treated to a diverse range of folk/acoustic music welcoming musicians to perform regardless of skill or age. Essentially, it's an open mic format but its considered to be a little bit more than that.
The candle-lit atmosphere is said to be one of the best among the folk circuit of South Wales. Put that in combination of some wonderful music and a licensed bar... you have a perfect occasion to end the week with.
On a club evening, the doors open at 7pm, with music kicking off from 8pm. Tickets are normally £3.50 (musicians free). The meetings also include a raffle (donations to this cause are very much welcome). Proceeds from the event go towards the St. Augustine's Church Restoration Fund.

Performing at the club
- IMPORTANT! - Artist sign-up changes for 2010, click here!
Rumney Folk Club is open to a diverse range of musicians, instruments and takes on folk/country/blues/acoustic music. We welcome musicians of any age or any skill. We've had many performers 'break their performing duck' at the club, helped along by an appreciative crowd.
The club can often attract up to anywhere between 10-18 acts in an evening, each normally playin 1-4 songs. Naturally, the higher the number, the less time there is per artist. Fairness is a principal we often follow and to help us with decisions, please read the below carefully.
Give us a bell
Although its not essential, particularly if you've already played at the club before, its advised you e-mail Derek and let him know which date you're interested in playing. Include information like; what you would like to do, how many of you, if you have any time constraints (getting there late, leaving early), if you have any complicated set-ups etc. This way we can make sure you're accomodated for and on the sign-up sheet ready.
Turn up, sign up
Doors are open from 7pm, with music starting ay 8pm. You'll need to sign up at the door. The club doesn't necessarily work on a first come first basis and we do try and accomodate everyone, but if it's busy we may resort to informing people that they will not be able to play (though most new performers are first to be accomodated for) or might not be able to perform as many songs as they'd hoped.
Due to the time constraints, sound checking is not carried out unless requested and will only be carried out before 8pm or at the interval.. The sound team of Paddy, Potter and Oz will do their best to help you out though. If you have any requests regard sound or instruments, talk to the guys at the sound desk on the left as you walk in and they'll be happy to oblige.
IMPORTANT!
Relax, meet people, take in the atmosphere and just simply enjoy playing and being at the club.
Other notes
The club is run by volunteers and its proceeds go to charity, so we regret that our performers cannot be paid at regular club evenings. However musicians are welcome to skip the entry fee as a small token.
We get many requests from artists wishing to perform 'featured' slots at the club, which we would love to oblige to, but we're currently not in that position. Consideration is going towards this route, but we cannot neglect that all our helpers are volunteers work for free and asking them for additional time is hard, even if they do enjoy it! Likewise, changing the fabric of the folk club evenings is a tricky thing to handle. But we'll keep you posted and we hope you keep us posted too!

Sound & equipment
The club has three sound engineers, Paddy, Potter and Oz. They're a friendly bunch, nuff said!
As 'unfolk' some people consider a PA system at a folk club to be, the team are dedicated to making sure that the sound is as good a quality as it can be, without resorting to trickery which can effect an instruments sound, unless requested.
Equipment listing
Large PA system
Mixer with 2 sound effect channels (reverb, delay, chorus etc.)
Vocal and instrument mics
DI boxes for jack instruments
5-piece acoustic drum kit
Electric drum kit (check for availability, only when the Tech Pervs play!)
